We visited the Manor House and we were very impressed with the work the National Trust and the BBC had put in to renovate. Each room is decorated and equipped to represent a different time in history and you are allowed to touch sit and lie on all the exhibits. The National Trust volunteers who are there to help were... Tucked away at the back of Avebury, near the Keiller Museum and Circles Cafe, is the Manor. You get to it, not through its front gate, but by walking through part of the gardens (no charge for the grounds, just for the house itself). On entering, we were pleasantly surprised to be told we could (and, often, should) touch things!... More

As any parent will know the worry about going to old houses is constantly telling the kids not to touch. At Avebury Manor everything is interactive. As a result the kids have a great time which means parents can too. A really informative place with numerous museums around the estate. If you like NT properties you won't be disappointed.

A really interesting idea: a period home where you can touch things, sit on chairs, lay on beds, dress up in clothes, etc. A delight for children. Enthusiastic room guides make this a great couple of hors.

What a picturesque / postcard place. This Manor House is like no others from the moment we walked in a very friendly gentleman told us about the history and that the BBC had got involved and the rooms where decorated in the different eras which it was occupied. The kids where given a lanyard with clues to find things. He... More

Came here while visiting the stone circle. This manor house is well worth a visit. The staff, sited in each room, are so friendly and informative not at all snooty like you can encounter in some National Trust properties. The manor house has a lovely warm feeling to it and it had been internally reconstructed and decorated very well with... More

Spent a surprisingly long time at Avebury manor with 2 daughters aged 7 and 9, as unlike most NT places Avebury Manor is designed to be interactive, with many things to touch or do, coffee grinding in the kitchen, playing billiards, trying out the beds for comfort upstairs , initial embroidery , dressing up from different centuries. Very helpful guides... More

We absolutely love coming here. Such a beautiful place, the children love it as it's so hands on and they love lying in the beds! There are also lots of secret doors and so much to see. The gardens are exquisite too. We can't wait to come back :) we have National trust membership so not sure how much it costs... More

Avebury manor has been set up, with help from the BBC, so that every room reflects a different era. In most rooms, children are able to poke, prod and climb on the furniture which is a welcome treat from the usual "hands off" stance these places usually have to take. The staff are uniformly engaging, tolerant and interested.
