Although interesting, some of the exhibits I found a little hard to see how it fitted in. Would of been better for more about the area was fascinating about the dark side of Avebury as well as the historical archaeology

A small museum but worth looking at for the history of the stones - although you'd do much better going on one of the organised walking tours.

This museum is sited in a huge barn. Lighting is quite dim due to the barn being home to 5 different species of bats. There is lots of information relating to Alexander Keiller and his archaeological exploits. Also many of the exhibits areof the tangible...More

The exhibits talk about Alexander Keillor and his life from Champion British Ski Jumper to scientific archaeologist. Four wives and using up his fortune left the house to the National Trust to cover his death duties. Preserved Avebury Stones for future generations to enjoy.

Children love the displays of skeletons and neolithic tools, and there is plenty of information for adults too, covering the history of the stones, and the work of archaeologists to find out about them. Interactive screen, quizzes, and other things for children.

The museum is a real let down. From the outside the buildings look lovely but there is nothing of any substance in the museum. There isn't any real information or knowledge about the stones and there isn't much to see. My advice would be to...More

Good museum. Some good hands on for kids, interesting time line. Good to do with the manor. Small part of a good day out.

An Avebury visitor should visit both parts of the Keiller Museum, as it's the only place in Avebury village to see some of the results of archaeological excavations of Avebury-area sites. (Would that the museum were larger, though, with more findings exhibited.) The museum's tours...More
