I used to walk through The Close on my way to work for many years and whatever the weather it was always an enjoyable experience. If you visit many cathedral cities in England you will find the small streets which surround them usually have exquisite architecture to share with us. Salisbury is no exception. As you walk through The Close... More

I have been visiting the Salisbury cathedral close from r a few decades now and never grow tired of It. It's an ideal setting for a picnic or you can stop for a leisurely cup of tea or a meal at the cathedral cafe or one of the two other cafes in the close. There are small museums to visit... More

We stopped here on route to Southampton. This historical street has little vehicle access so it can be enjoyed safely by pedestrians . There is a selection of scenic views of The Cathedral but there are several other buildings to visit as well as enjoying the green grassed area which is different from the busy town area the other side... The Close is a special area in the city of Salisbury. It houses not only the Catherdral, but many Museums and properties of interest. Mompessant House (National Trust) and the Salisbury Museum are two. Ted Heath's home Arundel is also there. A cafe on site offer drinks, icecreams in summer, and food. There are many wooden seats situated in the... More

A beautiful place to walk around and view Salisbury Cathedral. Around the Close are some amazing museums and houses that can be visited at certain times of the year (check visiting times). There are also a number of cafe's and places. To eat.

This historical street is of very limited access for cars and can be enjoyed safely by pedestrians . Any weather (except rain) I go here to enjoy my lunch break. With a paper, a sandwich and drink, I often sit and relax in the solitude and beauty of the close. In the shadow of the spire there is limited traffic noise so it easy to get lost in a crossword and forget yourself for an hour. The only... More
