The museum celebrates the life and work of renowned furniture designer Sir Gordon Russell and his company. Schooled in the Arts and Crafts tradition of the Cotswolds, Gordon Russell believed that the hand crafted tradition of British cabinet making could be fused with the possibilities of the machine, making good design accessible to all. From the workshops in the village of Broadway, which now houses the museum, the company gained an international reputation and had a profound influence on British industry, design and education. The displays cover a rich period of 20th century design, from Arts and Crafts to Modernism and beyond, accompanied by a changing programme of exhibitions and events. The museum shop brings the story up to the present day, showcasing the work of contemporary designer-makers.

Allow and hour and a half. It's just off the high street and well worth taking a walk around if you love local history, art and design.

To our shame, we knew nothing of Gordon Russell. We received a warm welcome from the guide who told us the history of Gordon Russell, his family, workshop and once-thriving business. The museum is beautifully laid out, with lots of Russell created furniture to admire....More

Though frankly I had never even heard of Gordon Russell, being a fan of designers such as Raymond Loewy, I found Russell to have an equally distinguished career. There was post and pre World War ll designed furniture and though personally I preferred the more...More

A small museum, reasonably priced entry. It was made special by the wonderful elderly gentleman who toured us round talking about the history of Gordon Russell and the story of the pieces of furniture and company life. He used to work for Russell's and knew...More

We didn't know what to expect in here, it didn't look too large but had a not too cheap entrance fee. We were glad we went in as it's the story of a local craft furniture business based around the designs of of one man...More
