Roughest pub I have been in since puberty. Loved it. So cheap, plastic glasses to avoid being used as weapons, and mould on the walls in the main lounge

Downiest is the absolute BOMB. Cheap drinks aka £1.85 for a double vodka and coke and the best worker ever aka FRED. Toilets might not be the best, but the atmosphere and prices make up for that.

It is half a century since I first patronized the Downies, it remains a pub that presents itself in two different ways, as I found out when I visited twice in three days.

My first visit, in the middle of a Wednesday evening, found me the only customer. I had one pint of the only real ale on offer, it was OK. I was able to admire the architectural features unchanged since my youth and had an interesting conversation with the barman.

My next visit with a friend late on Friday night was a complete contrast. The pub was full with exclusively young people enjoying themselves with loud music. This pub has a specialty of some kind of multiple vodka drink but we were not tempted by that. We still got seats, which will not always be available. On two previous visits, a rugby international and a late Saturday night there had been an implausible number of people crammed into the fairly small premises.

It is an unpretentious pub, but I rather like it.

I have never been to this pub sober - and its probably better that way! Lovely and fun for groups on societies night, the pub before the Pier or Y Not - definitely better in groups - good drinks on value.

Cheap drinks, new jukebox, great atmosphere, fast staff and a great landlord.

The people that you find in Downies Vaults all seem to have the same thing in common, they're out for a good time.

Definitely worth a visit!

Don't be fooled if this place is quiet if you visit early... within an hour or so, its so busy with students and locals alike! Its easy to see why when the prices are by far some of the cheapest in town. Renowned for it's jukebox, speedy service and loved landlord.

A lot of fun!

Highly recommend

Its not just vodka Tuesdays at downies aberystwyth, its vodka everyday. £1.75 for a double vodka and coke! A late pub, it gets rammed at around 11 pm. Famous for robbie Williams 'Angels' constantly playing on the jukebox, this should be a stop on every night out in aber town. Not to mention the friendly landlord and the lovely staff :D
Thoroughly recommend it.

By far the best pub in Aberystwyth. Cheap (ridiculously cheap) prices, fantastic landlord, jukebox. What more do you need?
