The museum is a fascinating experience for the whole family. Step back in time at the oldest lifeboat station in Wales (circa. 1858), Which houses a wonderful collection of exhibits telling the enthralling maritime history of Holyhead.

Situated alongside the Maritime Museum, in a Second World War Air Raid Shelter, is the very informative permanent exhibition "Holyhead at War".

Volunteer-run Holyhead Maritime Museum is a must-visit destination for anyone coming to or through Holyhead Port. The very knowledgeable guides turn a packed and interesting set of displays into a treasure trove of information and historical facts. The adjacent Bistro is convenient and has a unique view of the harbour and famous breakwater beimg the UK's longest at 2.7km.

Went for lunch here and had a great light meal for four of us. Nice food, good service and reasonable prices.

My wife and I visited the museum a few days ago, while on a short visit to Holyhead, and I'm very glad we did. This is a treasure trove of artefacts and anecdotes, staffed by volunteers who are passionate about maritime history and traditions. Our tour guide, Vince, was a mine of information and really brought the displays to life.... More

A really good way to spend two hours. It cost £5 each and this was excellent value as we got a fully guided tour. The Tour guides knowledge and passion about the items there was fantastic. The stories he told brought the displays to life and this had everyone's attention throughout. Fully run by volunteers and all the money made... More

Holyhead Maritime museum is a treasure in the Irish Sea. Very knowledgable and friendly staff, individual people with specialities are fabulous sources of information for the layman. I was even offered a cup of tea by Caroline, one of the vounteers. It was delicious. Great section on the history of the Dutch Marines in Hilyhead, which locks nicely with the... More

What a lovely little gem, hidden away looking out to sea. The museum is housed in an old lifeboat station, so is quite small, but the amount & quality of the exhibits is stunning! The museum is run by volunteers and our guide was extremely knowledgeable. After learning of local sea faring facts, we were then able to go into... More
