Newport Castle is basically a shell. It stands on the river Usk right inn the center of Newport. It looks good visually but is very small. It is possibly the least preserved of the Welsh Castles,

As a newportonian I have tried to be proud of my city, unfortunately all historic artefacts are being demolished or are falling into total disrepair. The castle is one such example, but off by scaffolding and work to the railway. It used to stand tall and proud when...More

Inaccessible, not much left and easily missed in the hustle bustle of traffic and trains. I would love to go back in time to see how majestic this old castle must have been.

Its stretching it a bit to call this a castle. More truthfully its the REMAINS of a castle. Still if you are passing by it is a historic monument (of sorts)

Sitting on the bank of the river Usk it was built to defend, Newport castle's ruins are interesting. Fortunately they can be easily viewed from the bridge crossing the river as access is denied.

Its a neglected ruin on a roundabout/mai road. Didn't seem to be any way of looking around. Under developed opportunity.

Dreadful, a ruin on the main roundabout into the city falling apart is closer to the mark. Nothing to see no attempt to save it or make it interesting or relevant
