The Crumlin Road Gaol dates back to 1845 and closed it's doors as a working prison in 1996. After extensive renovations the gaol has re opened as a visitor attraction and conference centre. Today you can take a guided tour of the prison and hear about the history of the site from when women and children were held within it's walls through to the political segregation of republican and loyalist prisoners and learn about why the decision was taken to close the prison.During the tour of the gaol you will be taken by your tour guide to visit the underground tunnel that used to connect the gaol to the Crumlin Road Courthouse, you will get a chance to sit in the Governor's chair, view all the wings from the circle and of course pay a visit to the condemned mans cell before seeing the execution cell where the majority of the 17 men were hanged.

We toured here on a Saturday afternoon. Our tour guide was great and he created a great atmosphere for the whole group. The stories included in the tour kept you interested throughout. Definitely worth a visit and great value for money.

This was really interesting and we were shown around by a knowledgable and helpful guide. Only £7.50 for a tour lasting 60/70 minutes too, very fair price. I'd definitely recommend this tour.

Across the street from the eerily crumbling court, is this restored jail. The guide was extremely well-informed and made the prison come alive. It is a tour that should not be missed

Great tour guide who was very informative. Also quite shocking when we saw where they hanged the prisioners and buried them. Not for the delicate or squeamish! That said, we enjoyed it and would recommend it for visitors to Belfast.

This can be a bit tricky as there are steps in a few places, also there is a fair bit of walking, but all at a nice pace.
