Overview

The Downpatrick and County Down Railway runs through the drumlin countryside of County Down - St. Patrick's Country - over the River Quoile and under the graceful Down Cathedral. With a mix of steam and diesel trains, and vintage carriages, there's plenty for train fans of all ages - from wee kids to "big kids". Run by volunteers, society membership entitles you to free travel.

We visited the museum and took a ride in the steam engine, what a fabulous experience and the volunteers are so knowledgeable and willing to share their enthusiasm with you. A fabulous afternoon out well worth the visit to downpatrick.

Hi Molly, thanks for the review but you've only left one star? That'll bring our overall ratings down :(

We've taken rides at Xmas and Halloween and they are always something special! There is a also a great museum with carriages the children can explore and a little interactive corner with costumes, toy train and colouring. A credit to the town

All credit to this tiny band of steam preservationists. They are doing a brilliant job on a shoe-string. Excellent restorations in progress and great display area. Go and encourage them!

Hi Jennifer, we cannot offer midweek charters at the moment, however check out the Groups Visit and Venue Hire page at the main downrail website (afraid Tripadvisor won't allow direct links so you'll need to google it)
