Sadly wells are now locked up

Nice place to visit as a child and quaint as you could take the water form the "magical" wells and walk into the Roma Baths, sadly they are all locked up, not much to see other than a few roman well kept buildings and some information on the site - worth walking around the local area and the wishing seat if you can find it close by, no more than 30 minute visit, but will always come back with my own family for a nostalgic visit

Ancient Healing Wells

This site was an ancient healing well, later becoming a monastic settlement with healing baths. The off the beaten track site, is quiet (we were the only ones there), with good signage explaining the history of Struell Wells. The well preserved buildings, are surrounded by a multitude of naturally growing healing herbs (Hawthorn, Elder Flower,
Meadowsweet, Horsetail, Water Speedwell and many more)

Interesting place to visit

Situated just about 1-2 miles outside Downpatrick the site is an interesting place to visit, there are a few stone buildings and a few wells, there are descriptive signs next to a few of the building and one b4 you enter the outer wall. The site has a good road to it and a car park big enough for 6-8 cars maybe more. I have visited this site so many times 30+ as a child and adult. It's a open area great for kids to run around with supervision , if the day is good bring a picnic and enjoy the fresh air.

A damp Struel Wells

Despite the rather damp day and mud underfoot it was a pleasure to visit this very interesting site. Fantastic to think that they have been ther for so long!

It was fun to wander around here and check out the wells. The architecture is interesting and the water is said to bring luck! Who knows if it did, but it's something interesting to see for free.

Amazing experience-a must see!

For anyone interested in Ireland's history or religious history,I think this is an absolute must see! I have lived in Ireland for over 40 years and only stumbled on this site recently. This really brings the story of saint Patrick to life- no visitor centre, no flashing lights, just raw history. Amazing.

Amazing - Well worth seeing!

Loved it here!
This is a must see for history and architectural lovers!
Great to see so much of the buildings and area still intact with amazing detail - unbelievable that it is not more popular!
We were there for over an hour and did not see one other person there the entire time.
Can also climb up to St Patrick's Chair if you are up for a climb!

Spiritual Site for Hallowe'en

We had a short visit on Hallowe'en during the late afternoon as the light was beginning to fade.

This attraction is well signposted, but as you head deeper into the countryside, and the roads get windier and continue to narrow, you could easily miss the final sign if you don't pay attention.

The ruins, which include the shell of a church, are well maintained, and there's nothing more restful than the sounds of running water. You do get a sense of peace and spirituality, like the rest of the features on the St Patrick's Trail.

Struell Wells would be a nice spot for a picnic on a warm day. For me, it's not as delightful as Inch Abbey, but I would return. This site is well maintained, with helpful noticeboards, but there are no toilets on site.

Unexpected Find

Just saw the signpost for Struell Wells and decided to have a look...a beautiful place and so peaceful. We even collected some water from the well to take home.
