Although the interior of the castle was closed for the winter it is still well worth a visit to enjoy the grounds and admire the castle, home of Duke & Duchess of Argyll, Clan Campbell. We even managed the fairly strenuous hike to the watch tower (Dun na Cuaiche) some 813ft where the views are quite spectacular but proper footwear... More

The castle was closed when we visited but the grounds were open for walks. We took the signposted trail to the hill with the watch tower on a sunny day. It was worth the hike, the views were amazing. Highly recommended!

Being a lovely sunny afternoon back last August, we preferred to have a sit and a leisurely stroll round the gardens, rather then being inside on such a lovely day. We enjoyed seeing the lovely building from the outside and had a relaxing time in the grounds.

When you imagine a castle, Inveraray Castle is what you think of. Still a private home, but the public is allowed access during the warmer months. I truly enjoyed just seeing the landscaping and outside of the castle/palace itself! It's definitely worth a visit if you are in Scotland!

Our guide for this tour was so passionate and knowledgeable about this castle. We were all very interested when we found out that the Christmas episode of Downton Abbey was filmed here! Also, the family who owns this castle still reside here. It has lovely grounds and a beautiful garden which we were free to walk around. I enjoyed my... More

A spectacular castle hosted in spectacular well-kept grounds, to find it all you have to do is walk in the opposite direction of the high street once you have parked up. During the winter, there is free parking in the high street only drawback is that the castle is closed to the general public for them to clean and prep... More

Having first seen this castle featured in the Downton Abbey series (under the name Gleneagle, not Inveraray), this castle was a "must-see" for my vacation to the U.K., and it did not disappoint. The castle itself, the grounds with gardens, and the history is well-preserved & on display for all to see. Guided tours of the interior castle are available,... More

We are not a 'walking' couple but do like to have a stroll and take in the scenery & we also have a very active dog who will run every mile that we walk. Although the castle was closed we were still able to walk around the grounds and up to the "Bell Tower". Follow the blue markers to get... More
