Great afternoon out

I visited here with my parents who had travelled up from England a few weeks ago on a weekend away. It really is one to avoid. For my boyfriend and I (one adult and a student) to get in it cost £21 pounds. I understand that independent museums need to make money to keep things running but considering the museums... More

Plenty to see and experience at this jail. My children enjoyed roaming about from cell to cell and loved being able to test out various prison equipment. The staff were wonderfully informative and friendly. Lots of steps so our great grandfather got in for free, at 97 he enjoyed the ground floor cells and the views. Dogs are also welcome... More

You have the option when you purchase tickets to get an audio commentary and I am glad we did as it was handy to have. There are no lifts to the floors and the steps need careful attention as they are very old and worn in places, Having said that, it was a very interesting visit, taking us nearly two... More

If you head into town centre and take a left at the George hotel you will see Inverary jail tucked away at the bottom of the street. The cost of entry is around the £9-pound mark, cheaper if you prebook online. You get a guide who is very knowledgeable and there is quite a bit of information for you to... More

A great piece of history worthy of a visit with or without the kids or grand kids. This is a must see and fun.

Best historic visit I've undertaken. Well planned route round the jail and lots of useful and interesting facts to read on the way. Some of the stories of inmates are quite moving and hard to believe how they punished even kids for minor offences. Well worth a visit.

Very interesting if a little depressing at times. Courtroom is the highlight and is really memorable. Bought tickets online and made a saving on the usual entry price.

A fascinating experience. A mine of information about treatment and punishment of inmates, harsh in the extreme in many cases. Early accommodation was primitive and slow to improve with overcrowding common. We were offered audio guides, but did not bother with them, preferring to just absorb the atmosphere, of which there was plenty, without distraction. Most of the cells had... More
