We came across the Rhymers Stone whilst on a circular walk from Melrose. There is a very good explanation/ information board at the stone. From here there are lovely views over the surrounding countryside.

Thomas the Rhymer is remembered with this memorial stone which includes a section of one of his works. The site is on a no through road on the edge of Melrose and the visit will only take few minutes. However, our party then went on...More

I went with great enthusiasm to see the stone. Having read quite a few books and poems about Thomas. Knowing Steeleye Span's song very well, I was pleased to see the stone highlighted on the road signs. When I got there I was sadly disappointed....More

On a circular walk of about 6 miles out of Melrose - viewed the Rhymer's Stone and Trimtonium Fort, Leaderfoot viaduct etc. Interesting walk even in the rain and you are never far from a town.

Bit of a trek up the hill from the town of Melrose (although you can also drive to it). Well worth it for this monument to Thomas the Rhymer and the interesting story attached to the spot. Recommended.

Had a look at it on the way to walking the Eildon Hills. I knew a bit about Thomas the Rhymer. So it was good to the see a spot connected with him.
