Great paths and we recommend just following it and exploring. Definitely a day time excursion as it could get a little creepy at night.

I perfectly understand that the maze of narrow alleyways connecting parallel streets in Edinburgh is very atmospheric and is one of those unique things that make Edinburgh so special. However, they looked kind of creepy to me... rather dirty and with some unsavory characters browsing...More

These are one of the many narrow alleys in the old town. We went through several of them in a walking tour and learnt a bit about their history and some notable characters associated with these narrow passageways. They were not law abiding citizens. JK...More

Perhaps I have strange tastes, but I love the short-cut alleyways between the main streets of the Old Town. These medieval nooks & crannies are magnificent.

Edinburgh's Old Town is full of closes(alleys) and this one from 1544 is one of the most famous ones. Great, central location in Royal Mile offers nice views down to the valley.

Alley to motel one at the bottom. Nice bar in between which serves nice food and craft cocktails. Not much of an attraction as it's just an alley way

There are many steep, narrow alleyways branching off the Royal Mile, one of them is Advocate's Close. I can imagine that these are some of the sights that inspired JK Rowling. Definitely worth checking out.

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly

that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
