Although I am a native spanish speaker, I chose to do the tour in english to practice and to have a local guide. I made the right decision: Johnny was entertaining, fun and very informative, keeping everyone focused through the entire tour. Of all the Sandemans tours I did in different cities, this was one of the best.

I love sandemans tours and always make the most of the opportunity they provide. This tour was no exception. A great introduction to the city of Edinburgh.

the tour was awesome, and if you have any chance to do it with Greg (the scotish ginger) definitly do so! We had so much fun. Heaps of information, a lot to see in an old, historic town! 10/10

The starting point of the tour is very easy to find and was in a great location. We had a small lunch just before the tour beside the starting point. The tour guide was great. Did the free tour with Australian David and he was great! Had heaps of Harry Potter trivia and little bits and pieces about Edinburgh's Old Town that I could have easily walked straight past if he wasn't pointing them out! Definitely worth taking part in.

Dave was amazing! We learnt a lot not only about Edinburgh but also about the history of Scotland. He was super funny and made the visit a unique experience for all of us because he offered his advice about many different things to do in the city. He told us different places to enjoy a very Scottish lunch and I... More

We did the tour with Greg and it was just awesome... He is not just a really good guide but also kind of an actor, that takes us to the time of the story he is telling. I learned and laughed a lot. When we asked about curiosities or restaurants he was super helpful. It was great, really recommend.

Greg was amazing! He really knew his stuff and made the tour lots of fun. I was a bit worried as there were a lot of people but Greg could talk loud enough over the wind and passerbyers. He was very knowledgeable about the history and everything in general. Would definitely recommend.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
