Edinburgh Castle is a world famous icon of Scotland and part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site. It was recently voted top UK Heritage Attraction in the British Travel Awards and is Scotland’s number one paid-for tourist attraction. This most famous of Scottish castles has a complex building history. The oldest part, St Margaret's Chapel, dates from the 12th century; the Great Hall was erected by James IV around 1510; the Half Moon Battery by the Regent Morton in the late 16th century; and the Scottish National War Memorial after the First World War. The castle houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg, the One O' Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland.

For the history of Scotland and the English I would have given a 6 rating but the only reason for the 3 rating is the number of tourist visitors that do not have any concept of preserving the past or the respect to clean after...More

Crowded, but worth visiting. Prisons were one of the highlights. Not much left in the royal rooms, minor decoration, but crown jewels are worth a glimpse.

A lot of people over there, but when you are inside the premisses you’ll not be annoyed. We have spend 4 hours in the Castle. Enjoyed a great lunch at Queen Annes. Worthwhile!

Edinburgh castle is stunning and the history is fascinating but the experience was spoiled a little by the crowds, the prices (£17 entry fee plus £16 for 4 coffees) and the over zealous staff who seemed to be yelling at every chance for people to...More

A great day out, and I do mean day. We were there for about 4 hrs (I'm a bit of military history type). Do one of the free tours that the castle run.

We really enjoyed our visit to the castle. I would advise people to go first thing in the morning and also to pre-book tickets. The queues were extremely long, even in the cold, wet weather. We had booked tickets and were so glad to bypass...More

Had travelled few years back. Very nice place. One gets a good view of the city from this castle. Try to be there early in the morning or late evenings.

Yes, plenty of option. I get a 30-day 10GB data and 150minute call phone card for $20 pound. Would have cost me $60 USD to get 1GB data from AT&T from USA.
