Quite simply the best science-type museum we've been to. Captivating 2 - 2.5 hours with a spell bound 10 year old.

Well done throughout, until the rain forest. Couldn't hear a word - not the fault of the presenter, speakers in totally wrong place. Also the interactive chap earlier did not really work as people, especially children were reluctant to engage with him/it. But overall very well done and flows smoothly from one section to another.

A great place to visit with kids (boy 11, 9 and 5), where else can they touch an Iceberg and smell a rhino! The staff were great too and played their parts with enthusiasm, great for the kids. The final film in the 360 showdome is AWESOME. (We arrived after 15:30 and still had plenty of time to get around)

Fab day out with 6 and 11 year old boys. Really informative but in a fun way. The real iceberg is amazing. Cafe was good quality and at a fair price.

Dynamic Earth is a great day out for all ages plenty to see and nice cafe to grab a bite to eat. Was reasonable for entering price wise with onsite parking. Staff really knowledgeable and friendly. The 2 cinema experiences were excellent.

Visited in February with my wife and four year old son. Staff at reception were friendly and explained where we needed to go to begin our tour. Found all areas of the exhibition in good condition and the staff at each part of the tour enthusiastic and well informed. My son was probably a bit young to take in all... More

I came here with Lanark Primary School, the trip was fab, well organised and the staff were great. The children all enjoyed the trip and the show in the show dome was awesome, very informative. Brilliant day out, had by all. Thank you 😊

Took the grandchildren , had not been for a few years.Basically very enjoyable but i have to say THE SHOW as it is called at the end is far too long and too complicated. It tries to cover far too much highly technical stuff and in my view not suitable for children at primary school and indeed I struggled to understand... Visited here in the February school break with my adult son and a couple of his friends. The couple had their 20 month old son with them. It was a great place for adults and older children but not much to do for younger kids. Very informative. Staff were knowledgeable and interacted well with visitors. Good fun and learned a... More

My 12 year old wasn't interested as the exhibits' focus is for much younger visitors. There is also very little explanation of what you are seeing around. I was extremely bored myself. It seems to be one of these places where 3-8 year olds can run around for a few hours. The show dome movie was alright but for what... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
