Neighbourhood: Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

    Taste of Scotland
We booked the Taste of Scotland tour, which is the Platinum tour followed by a tasting menu at the Amber restaurant. The tour was fun and informative (for both whisky newcomers and enthusiasts - I consider myself somewhere in between) and the whisky collection was impressive. Our tour guide Curtis was great, with interesting stories and a good sense of humor. The food at the Amber restaurant was excellent.

Excellent tour! Well worth a visit!
Excellent visit! I've never tried whisky but my husband was interested in learning more about whisky so we booked the silver tour and our guide was Lochlan (sorry if spelt wrong). He was very informative and we both found the tour very interesting. I even tried the whisky (husband thought he'd have to drink mine too)!! Wow the room of whisky was impressive, photos do not do it justice. We both thoroughly enjoyed the tour and wished we'd booked the gold tour. I'd recommend anyone to visit, very informative and interactive way of learning.

This is a First Class experience!
Stayed the wife along (who is not a whisky fan) and she absolutely loved it. They explain the different regions, tastes (scratch n sniff), impressive visual displays and various sample tastings. Absolutely worth doing the Gold version for the 4 extra drams, and the regional IMAX style video of the scenery is stunning. Engaging tour operators and it only goes for an hour. Interactive video style selecting the type of whisky and range on display 3,400+ is literally like heaven to whisky lovers Great range of whisky in the gift shop I r he way out and worth taking 10 mins to walk through the store. Will be hitting up our travel company to include this in future tours as it’s a ‘must see’ in Edinburgh, and right next to the Castle which was handy

    Really nice informative experience
I’m not a big whiskey drinker but I absolutely loved this whiskey tour. Our tour guide, Fiona was very welcoming and informative and she explained all the different regions of Scotch whiskies and the best way to drink whiskey to really get a taste for all the different flavours and notes in it. There was a family on the tour with us, and I really liked that they gave the children irn-bru instead of whiskey shots. I recommend getting the gold tickets as you get to try 5 different whiskies instead of just one and if you try the Campbell town whiskey first, you can try all the different regions in the bar later. Highly recommend for any whiskey lover or novice

    Great introduction to whisky!
I’ve never had Scotch whisky before, but this was a really great way to enjoy for the first time! We learned about the different whisky regions of Scotland and got to choose our preferred type for the first sampling. We got to try another dram of blended scotch afterwards as well. I did the silver tour and it was well worth it!

Great fun but leave the kids at home!
This was great fun! Very informative and well presented. The guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. All the whiskey was great and being able to taste and share our thoughts with some lovely couples made it a great experience. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the fact they allow small children on the tour! This is not a place for kids, especially noisy and whiny toddlers. Beyond that, I would highly recommend scheduling a tour and enjoy some of Scotland’s best.

    Fantastic experience!
My husband and I had a fantastic time on our Platinum tour! Our guide, Kev, was incredibly knowledgable, passionate and funny - he really made our experience! We learnt a lot about the making of Scotch whiskeys and how to properly taste them too. The collection of unopened whiskeys was really interesting. I would absolutely recommend the experience if visiting Edinburgh!

    Scottish whisky experience
Really interesting and a nice visual experience, lots of knowledge gained about the different regions to be able to take forward into the future. Zach was excellent with the group and answered all questions asked. Had the gold tour with a good selection of whiskys provided.

    Fab for a whiskey lover!
My husband really likes whiskey so we decided to go on a whiskey tour! Our tour guide Jim was amazing and a lovely guy to chat to! His whitty humour really kept us interested (and at times I have a short attention span!) each individual room was excellently themed and we even loved the extras! Even under 18s got some Irn bru! All in all it’s a great experience:)

Beautiful place, nice staff and magnificent liquid. A must see for every whisky lover.
Great presentation that connects beautiful visual and very informative content. Our guide Corin was kind and well informed, glad to answer any question. The"vault" - one of the greatest whisky collection was spectacular to see and the best place to enjoy the glass of whisky. Easy 5/5.

Fabulous experience. Our tour guide Kev was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and funny and made it a wonderful experience for my mums 60th Birthday weekend. It was a great overview of how scotch whiskey is made and the difference between the regions etc. Would definitely recommend the gold tour great value for money.

Save money and go to real distillery. You will learn the same and will see everything with naked eye.

I only went there because my brother was interested. The show was interesting but having done a tour in distillery before, I didnt learn anything new.

The guide Maria had pathetic jokes. She kept saying she is Spanish so she hates rain in Scotland and beaches are better in Spain. Rain is part of Scottish weather and she chose to live here and I bet she has never been out of Edinburgh and havent seen Highlands beaches with white sand like Silver Sands of Morar or on Vatersay. Jokes were uninteresting and she didnt give the vibes of being knowledgeble except perfectly rehearsing the speech.

As an enthusiastic Whiskey drinker , thought this was right up my street. It was. Platinum tour was interesting and informative.
Our guide was Cody, who has the most enviable job in the world . Sampling several tipples with Cody guiding us to appreciate the flavours and aromas . The vault upstairs contained a remarkable large collection , and the whole tour was enlightening. Thanks

I loved my experience. Ella was great, and I really appreciated the option to participate without actually tasting the whiskey. Even though I do not drink whiskey, I still enjoyed the experience and learned a lot. Highly recommend it!

Excellent. Informative and fun. FYI you don’t see an actual distillery but the use of effects and information are brilliant.
Our guide Evaneline was top notch.
The tastings were well chosen.

Since last visiting in 2015, the experience has underwent significant changes, all of them for the better. The interaction from the guide (we had Becca) is much better than the old "sit in a barrel" ride. We done the gold tour so got to taste quite a bit and we all really enjoyed the tour.

I thought this was a pretty darn good deal. My wife and I are scotch whisky enthusiasts, so naturally we wanted to check this place out when we visited Edinburgh. There were no openings when we tried to book one online (as recommended) but when we showed up anyway and asked at the reception desk they got us right in on a tour. The tour and tasting took about an hour, which was just the right amount of time. The guide, Chris, was knowledgeable and entertaining, and we learned quite a bit about the differences between scotches from various regions in the country. The tasting alone was worth the price of admission. Would definitely recommend.
