It's December, it's Edinburgh, it's lunch time. Already walked away from one restaurant as they couldn't work out which way was up. Walked in to the expected queue and were immediately greeted warmly and professionally. Asked our requirements and informed how long the expected wait would be (35 mins) in about 20 we were shown to seats at the bar... More

My husband and I popped in for pre dinner drinks in the Dome. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and an impressive venue. It was standing room only and therefore we only stayed for one drink but well worth popping in for a quick drink!

After a brief visit to Edinburgh in the summer we decided to come for a double-celebratory-glass-of-'fizz' in the autumn. How lovely to be served by Ashleigh and Crinan in The Club Room! What a beautiful, Christmas ambience! We were told to arrive by 11.30am or we would not be able to get a seat. How right that turned out to... More

Our visit in the Domestic was really good. We tried the afternoon tea in the Georgian tea room and we were impressed. Service was very kind and helpful, the place was magnificent because of the Christmas decoration and music combinated the whole atmosphere. We had a selection of sweets and different types of toast. Everyone should visit it once, and especially... More

I visited with my mum & sister. The setting is stunning. The staff are very helpful & very friendly. We had dinner in the Grill Room. We managed two courses and thoroughly enjoyed both. I would recommend the lamb main course & the black pudding & goats cheese starter. The bread was very yummy too. Would definitely visit again for... More

My friends and me had afternoon tea at The Dome for my birthday. The whole experience was fantastic. The service and food was fabulous. We were so thrilled with The Dome, we managed to make a reservation for dinner for the following evening. Oh my goodness, what an amazing night. From start to Finish it was such a fabulous evening.... More

I have been to the dome before for dinner and drinks, this time we popped in for a quick cocktail to show our friends how amazing the place is. You really will be taken back by it, highly recommend popping in for a drink at the very least.

Came here on a busy Friday eve for cocktails and a meal. The interior is all decorated for the festive season and has the wow factor. It's a pity that the food didn't have the same effect. We both had a main course of lamb which was slightly overcooked. A good job we ordered a side dish of roasted vegetables... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
