A bit of a trek to get to the top and note there are no public washroom facilities. Great views of the entire city and surrounding country side. Renovation/restoration work is underway on the Observatory so that can be a nuisance. Otherwise go off a...More

Calton Hill is well worth seeing for the many monuments there and the great vistas of Edinburgh. You can climb the Nelson's monument for some even netter views. I suggest bringing a guide book when you visit so you can sort out the significance of...More

You can't miss Calton Hill in Edinburgh - it's the one that has a tower and what looks like ruins overlooking the whole city. It's not all that hard to reach, and we'd recommend it on a nice day. It's basically a park on a...More

We visited Calton Hill for the Beltaine Fire Festival in May and loved the experience! Very beautiful views of the city at night, and then the celebration proceeded to take us around the Hill inthe dark, with lots of fires and atmosphericlighting. Each section of...More

Whilst touring the city, thought it nice to walk up to Calton Hill to take in the views of this great old city. It`s a bit of a walk up the local streets and steps especially if your not getting any younger, but just pace...More

It is a pretty easy walk up here if you're on that side of the city. It gives nice views of the city and Arthur's Seat and even out to sea, but not as great as from Arthur's Seat.

At the end of Prince Street in Edinburg stands Calton Hill, an accessible city park marked with monuments and fantastic views of the city. The most prominent memorials at the top (which can be seen from many spots around Prince Street / Royal Mile) include...More

Carlton Hill is home to some great views across Edinburgh and the Forth Valley. A decent spot for a picnic (weather permitting!) there are also a number of interesting monuments and buildings to visit.

Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to
malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton
have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a
mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village
found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything
but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street;
even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and
art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The

Hi BZBC. Carlton Hill is never closed! It is an open public space that you can visit at any time of day or night. Choosing a morning when the weather allows a clear view is the difficultly. Good Luck.
