If you want to have a deep understanding about the Scott's culture, you should come here! Is one of the best parts in the Castle.

We visited this museum as part of our visit to the Edinburgh Castle. The admission is included in the ticket to the castle. The exhibition shows Scotland in war since 17th century until now. Very interesting and important to show to all generations.

I was not in here this time round for my visit to Scotland, but have been in here a couple of times before, though I was outside the building this time whilst in Edinburgh castle. If you like all things military, and stuff about battles and battle honours etc, this is a great place to come, lots of uniforms, swords,... More

The Castle visit was fantastic, and NWMofS was also very impressive. The day was very busy and the weather was hot. There were not enough staff to control the crowds. This is my only complaint.

This museum is pretty good, but not top-notch like other military museums I've visited in other countries. Worth visiting if you visit the Edinburgh Castle.

The War Memorial at the Castle is the best War Memorials i have seen to date. The records are so well maintained...a touching tribute to all those who have served in times of trouble

I'm not especially interested in military regalia, but I am sure this museum would be fascinating if you were. The artefacts were displayed in an interesting way. I didn't spot much to capture the imagination of children.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
