We make a point of visiting this gallery everytime we go to the city. It has free entry except to visiting exhibitions, has a good atmosphere and despite the large number of visitors, never appears to be crowded. Well worth the visit.

I had a few hours until my apartment was cleaned, so I headed towards the Mound and there was this beautiful museum. Why not? It was free and very peaceful for a weary traveler that just arrived from London. The museum has everything an art...More

Even my husband who isn't into art liked this place. The highlights include some Van Goghs, Seurat, Van Dycks and an amazing Scottish still life in the Dutch fashion. Highly approachable museum.

This is a lovely gallery which I regularly visit when in Edinburgh. It is free to enter and has a good range of paintings across many centuries by both native and overseas artists. It is a very relaxing gallery and easy to get around without...More

Wandered inside for a few minutes and spent an hour. Small and accessible with a nice survey of U.K. and world masters - impressionists, Titian, El Greco, Rembrandt and on and on... why go to Edinburgh and not make a visit to this fine museum?!

We have been here before and always enjoy seeing so many wonderful paintings in this collection. A lovely old building. A must see in Edinburgh.

First-class collection, of interest for both Scottish and general tastes. Strongest in painting, but there is some sculpture and prints.

You have to pay for the special exhibitions, but the permanent gallery has many good pictures of all different periods, so there is something for everyone. There is a cafe and a shop.

Monarch of The Glen is worth the visit to the Scottish National Gallery on its own! A beautiful walk through the Prince Street Gardens, with free admission to the standard exhibition - absolutely worth a visit.

Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street
is only half one, since buildings only line one side.
But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views
are from Princes Street as a result. From here you
look onto expansive and decorative public gardens
beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s
Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old
town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look
