I was recommended to go here by some friends and was very impressed with my experience. The staff are very knowledgeable when it comes to their products and all whisky in general. They're very patient and not stingy at all when you want to try some samples. From someone who has been to several whisky shops in Edinburgh, your best... More

Best place for artisanal (and others) whiskies in Edinburgh! Definitely worth spending one or two hours in this place.

This shop specializes in independent bottling of single malt scotch. What the means is that you have access to a lot of whisky that doesn't normally make its way to the public, especially abroad. The staff was amazingly helpful. Because they bottle the scotch, there is a big board in the shop showing you what all is available. It's a... More

Just came across this as we strolled down the Royal Mile. Great place to visit and buy whisky. The guys are very friendly, helpful and obviously knowledgeable about whisky. No hard sell - they're just happy to talk them you about whisky. Lots of recommendations for bottles you don't get in the supermarket. Not too pricey - got 2 great... More

Everywhere it seems in Edinburgh you trip over a shop selling whiskeys. This one is so different. The staff know there stuff, they aren't pushy nor are they pretentious. The young man was kind and attentive and really answered our questions. I ended up purchasing a bottle to compare with the Lagavulin 8 year. Can't wait to taste test. If... More

We stopped in at Cadenhead during our walk up the Royal Mile... the selection and knowledge of the staff was amazing. We were able to try a couple of samples and even though I had just come from Islay I ended up buying a couple of minis from distilleries I'd not heard of. I could have spent all day there... More

Visited Cadenhead's establishment en route to Edinburgh Royal Mile and was blown away by the exceptional service received. The associates were very informative, professional and friendly. My husband was in "whiskey heaven".

Okay, this shop is not your usual tourist hotspot with free tastings for the masses and sales people simply trying to get your money. It's a wonderful little establishment run by serious-minded, yet personable and helpful single malt aficionados. They're very knowledgeable and truly do their best to make sure you'll be happy with your purchase. After telling the young... More

Yet again, Caden Head has proved to be my favourite shop in Edinburgh (along with The Elephant House). The owner has the loveliest little Cairn Terrier, Maggie. All the staff are very kind and generous with their time and know so much about whiskey. This time in addition to my usual Highland whiskey, I bought some Campbeltown - which is... More

Went to buy a certain whisky. Hours are listed as Mon - Sat, 10AM - 5PM. At 3PM on a Tuesday, they were locked up tight. No sign to explain.

Very sorry you found the shop closed but the only Tuesday we were closed was the 3rd of January . As we had been open all through the Christmas and New Year period we have to give staff some time off so were closed 1st,2nd and 3rd January. We are open 10.30am-5.30pm Monday-Saturday at all other times of year. More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
