This place is dirty, dingy and grungy. Exactly what a rock bar should be. Jack Daniels and cobwebs, with a tub thumping band rocking out in the dungeon like venue at the back of the bar. If you like your metal music this is the place to go in the auld toon. I'll definitely be back.

Been coming to Bannermans for over 30 years and will never come back after the treatment we received last night! My friend and husband were through watching a bands and myself and other friend were sat at the bar. I had had one drink, we signalled to a bar man could we be served, he said ok after he'd finished... More

Had a fantastic night at The Quireboys Gig, we arrived early and the staff were very friendly and welcoming, the venue was small and intimate which made for a great night being so close to the band, we stayed behind for drinks in the bar and was pleasantly surprised when the band turned up for drinks, overall a fantastic place... Two nights ago we were directed to this pub and ended up here for the rest of the night. Down to earth pub, very relaxed atmosphere and the prices were decent for drinks and very comfy seating...a pint of Guinness and a Gin n Lemonade was just under £7 compared with over £10 elsewhere. There was an open mic night... More

Visited twice in the same day in November, the first was for a quiet afternoon drink where we found it to be reasonably priced with friendly staff and a nice relaxed rock bar atmosphere, we returned that evening for a gig and it is a small intimate setting which is perfect for rock gigs, it was a little warm in... I visited for an hour on a Tuesday evening during a trip to Edinburgh for the fire festival, as I love rock pubs, it advertised food but unfortunately had none so we made do with crisps and nuts. I found it a difficult location to reach on foot, down very steep little lanes sloping down from the Royal mile. If... More

This place rocks! The pub is great, the underground vault where bands play is eery and acoustically grand, and the whole vibe of the place is fun! Love this place!

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
