We were extremely impressed with the four city tours trips. They are all hop on, hop off, so you can take a tour, work out what you want to visit, and then use these buses to get to the attractions you want to visit again in more detail. The tours with live commentary are fantastic, with each guide finding different... More

All the staff on the two busses we went on were friendly and helpful. We learned lots of interesting facts about Edinburgh's history and really enjoyed the experience. I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city - definitely worth the money.

Not your average hop on/hop off bus tour! The bus is vintage with an open-air top deck. The tour takes about an hour and hits all the hot spots. The guides (not recorded!) are hilarious! We loved the running commentary! We rode around 1.5 times to get back to our hotel and both guides were fantastic - kept us in... More

We joined the throng at Waverley station specifically for this vintage bus tour. The queues were chaotic and poorly marshalled. All Tour queues seemed to mingle and it was a miracle that a fight didnt break out! HOWEVER once the bus arrived this was an excellent introduction to the city. The Guide was extremely knowledgeable with a kind, gentle manner... More

Hop on hop off with a bus every half an hour, added to the experience that this tour runs old Routemaster double decker buses. We did the full circuit to start which takes about an hour then stayed on the bus for a couple of stops to the Grassmarket area which is full of pubs. Reboarded to the Royal Mile... More

Great way to see the city, hopping off and on at all major attractions. Beautiful old style Double Decker, Open top bus and Fabulous live commentary from Colin ... Much better than listening to a recording! Just under an hour to complete the tour if you stay on, but you can travel around all day hopping off at as many... More

Get some flexibility and buy a 24/48 hour ticket that will cover a number of tour buses. Kids (teenagers) had a laugh with horrible histories audio. Bit of craic and a good way to get familiar with the city and history.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
