Drove through the Cairngorms, using A93 on a round-Scotland road trip. The beautiful vistas are plentiful and the scenery is rugged. There's lots of spots to pull over to enjoy the views. Shops and restaurants are fewer and far between, so stop when you can. While we enjoyed the rugged beauty, it wasn't our favorite area. We did find the... More

Even though Mother Nature is waking from winter the checkered yellows and browns against the green conifers was a wonderful sight as we drove across the Cairngorms on a cloudy blustery day.

You just have to drive through this region to experience the natural beauty for yourself. We travelled during the winter and the wind was blowing quite hard, but careful driving as you won't be sorry you set out on this journey.

On our way from Aberdeen to Inverness, we elected to drive through the Cairngorms, entering near Ballater and driving through Cock Bridge, Tomintoul, etc, on the Old Military Road. (Our only mistake was not going a little past Ballater and seeing Balmoral Castle - but we did see the Queen's View along the way.) The Scotland Trust has done a... More

This is an experience not to be missed. The views as you climb up the hill have to be seen to be believed. It only takes minutes to climb and even if you only go up to the top and straight back down it is worth the money

In the winter, it becomes a ski resort area but we got there when the heather had just dried out and fall has arrived. Even then, it was still lovely to see the rolling hills, streams and green pastures with sheep and if one is lucky, the odd mountain ram. Too bad it was raining otherwise would have been lovely... I have been visiting the Cairngorms for 30 years, mostly for walking and camping in the more remote areas in all the seasons. Even though the management is with a number of different owners and interested stakeholders the landscape remains a really fine example of wilderness. At the moment (October 2016) the managed area of Mar Lodge Estate (under NT... More

Drove through en route to Fort Augustus. Some pretty vistas...but I liked Glencoe much more. Good for some pictures.
