About
Wolfburn is the northernmost whisky distillery in mainland Scotland. Building work commenced in 2012 and Wolfburn was reopened after some 150 years in early 2013. At Wolfburn we don’t have a visitors centre so when you visit you’ll see the inner workings of the distillery itself, where our master craftsmen make single malt whisky the way it should be made: with care and without haste. Tours finish with a tasting of our various malts, and there’s the opportunity to buy bottles and Wolfburn merchandise.

Fantastic value for money
Sep. 2021 • Couples
Great tour and tasting at this small up and coming distillery. So interesting to find out how a new distillery finds it feet and starts producing some young excellent whiskys. Drivers get to take a miniature of their choice and everyone gets a free small wolfburn engraved glencairn glass.

Great Value for Money
Aug. 2021
Unlike the larger ditilleries, which seem deserted, apart from one man with a computer, this smaller operation feels like a hive of activity. The tour guide was knowledgeable and affable. The tour wasn't rushed and I defintiely didn't feel like a nuisance. There was a generous tasting at the end for non-drivers (drivers get a free sample bottle, but will probably feel short changed!). At £15 per head, with a free glass and loads of samples, it felt like great value for money.
If you don't fancy the tour you can pop into the shop onsite: prices are a bit cheaper than you would find in shops/online.

Jen's tour
Aug. 2021
This was our first real distillery tour. Jen took us round the distillery and was very knowledgeable, relaxed and funny. We had a few laughs round the distillery and learned a lot about the whole process. It was very interesting.
Hubby insisted in driving so I had to do the tasting at the end, which was tough, but I managed!
We had already bought some of the small batch Wolfburn bottles, after finding them online by chance, and really enjoyed one of them. Our son has kept the other 2!
I so enjoyed the tasting and bought a couple more different bottles and a couple of the glasses.
Thanks Jen and Wolfburn distillery

Really worth a visit

We have experienced a few distillery tours and we thoroughly enjoyed this one. The fact that it is a small company really helps create a more personal feel. Jen was informative and spent a lot of time with us and knew her stuff. Great value for money, lots of tasters and a glass. It was such a shame that I was driving but husband loved it.

Always great to hear that you enjoyed your trip to see us. It's an advantage being as small and personal as we are sometimes - you get a better feeling of how we make our whiskies. Regards from us all at Wolfburn

The best distillery in Scotland

The distillery tour was spectacular, definitely a must in Thurso. Our tour guide Jen was amazing, she could answer any question and really brought the tour to life. Much better than other tours we have been on!

A relatively new whisky. On an industrial estate…….but…..enthusiastic, knowledgeable people who really know their stuff. And the whisky is great! Our first distillery tour and so interesting, and because they’re small, you really get into it. Thank you to Jen, tour guide may not be your main job, but you were fantastic.

Absolutely amazing tour from Jen yesterday! We decided to pop in as a last minute decision and boy what a decision it was. Such an informative tour and no question went unanswered. I was amazed at how much I learnt over the 2 hours! Amazing value for money and the 4 whiskeys we tried where really great to! Definitely recommend and thanks again Jen!

Most Enjoyable Distillery Experience I Have Had.
Jul. 2021 • Solo
What this distillery lacks in scenic romantic granduer, it makes up for in spades, in terms of the friendliness, independence, honesty and quality of both the experience and of the spirit.
The distillery is new and nestled in an industrial unit on the outskirts of Thurso. Our tour guide, Jen, was knowledgeable and extremely personable. The distilling space is small and can be viewed directly from the shop within the same unit, which I liked. The separate bonded warehouse is an old fashioned style dunnage one which is also a nice touch. This is the first tour where I have been able to walk amongst the barrels in the warehouse. The excellent tour lasted 90 minutes followed by the highlight. 30 minutes sampling four young, but beautifully smooth and individually characterful single malts. For whisky drinkers, all the whiskys are at least bottled at 46% abv, are natural colour and non chill filtered. These whiskys are terrific value and modestly priced. What came across throughout was the hard work and graft, put in by a small team of skilled personnel, who prioritise producing quality whisky over marketing 'flannel' of heather and stags. I am sure when Jen is finished with a tour, she will be either bottling and labelling by hand or rolling barrels on the warehouse floor. To Wolfburns credit, this seems like the kind of place it is. The distillery is on the popular NC500 tourist route and I would encourage anyone travelling this part of Scotland, to pop in and experience it for themselves. I wish the team at Wolfburn all the success they deserve. I raise a glass to you from the bottle I purchased today. I reckon this will be the first of many. Sláinte.

Special wee place for a tour!
May 2021 • Couples
Lovely and knowledgable staff on our tour, special thanks to Gemma! Nice generous measures for tasting at the end and so happy we chose this distillery for a visit on our NC500 tour. Was great to learn about the whisky making process and see it all in one place and get to see all the barrels and so on. Would highly recommend and I’ll be keeping an eye out for the first barrel ever made when it gets released!
