Opened in 1993 by Prince Edward, Inverness Botanic Gardens, formerly Inverness Floral Hall & Gardens, are an oasis of calm and beauty within walking distance of the city centre. With each new season the outside gardens are an explosion of colour and texture, and borders are planted to demonstrate a wide variety of plants and growing conditions. The impressive glasshouses reveal the drama of plant diversity ranging from the tropical rainforests to arid, heat scorched desert.

Visited here on a day trip to Inverness with my partner. The gardens themselves are lovely, a large variety of plants/flowers to look at. What stole the show for me was the waffle we got in the cafe! Delicious! Nice big pot of tea too, and the staff were lovely.

This lovely little Botanic Garden was a pleasure to visit, on a rather showery day. The tropical greenhouse is well laid out, with a high walk way for a different perspective, and beautiful koi carp in the pool. The cactus house was beautiful too, and the outside garden well maintained and cared for. I think it is admirable that this... More

I took my girlfriend to see the botanic gardens yesterday and we enjoyed it very much. It was her first time visiting and she was surprised on how enjoyable and interesting it was. The tropical house is a great place to wander around with beautiful plants and flowers to see. We didn't get to try the cafe but I will... More

The Botanic gardens are very well kept. We enjoyed the tropical greenhouse and the fish. The "ideal hut show" was also very interesting and imaginative!

I have eaten here four times now. I enjoyed baked potato and chilli con carne. This came with generous salad and coleslaw. The best thing I have eaten here was a wrap with tikka dressed vegetables. Really fresh and crunchy veggies inside. The tea and coffee is lovely and the cakes are to die for. I have sat out the... More

The tropical room delightful and a resting spot upstairs if you want to enjoy the tranquillity., then the cactus garden again under cover great with a mirror to confuse many...lol. then outside seasonal plants and a nice walk around, followed by refreshments from the cafeteria. Best thing of all it's free entry!

On a recent trip to Inverness we visited this gem several times. It is free to enter and there are plenty of places inside and out to sit and enjoy the splendid trees, shrubs, plants, as well as the cactus house and "hot" house. There is also a restaurant onsite, which was good value, though it could be quite crowded.

If you're in Inverness on a wet day and have done the museum, consider heading for these gardens. They were a godsend for us - warm, for a start! And well stocked with really beautiful and interesting plants and trees, - and a very acceptable cafe, which also came in handy since there isn't much outside the centre of town.
