We traveled the River Ness and learned about the myth of Nessie while on a boat tour. The boat sat only 12 people so we were able to learn about the Loch from a scientist giving the tour. The boat stopped at Urqhart castle. We were able to get good photos of the castle without having to get off the... More

Self drive tour to Dores to photograph Urquhart Castle. Roads are suitable for pulling over on the side to take photos, etc.

We visited the City Inverness and the river area via a Royal Caribbean excursion, "Inverness on your own". To call this trip a disappoint would be an over statement. While the surrounding area is quite beautiful, the town is small with very little to do. Other than a small shoppi g mall and a few gift shop selling traditional tourist... More

The river was pretty low when we were there in May 2017 but the water is really clear and clean; several people fly fishing in the river. There are some nice walks along both sides of the river with plenty of seating to rest the legs along the way. Some good views of the Castle as well.

Walk along the water and enjoy the architecture, gardens and water views. Lots of greenery, fairly peaceful.

Looked for Nessie, she was not to be found 😏 After we returned home to the US, we saw an article that she was "spotted" one week after we were there!

Of course nobody saw Nessy, but the river, coastal town and everything else in the neighborhood is quite lovely.

One can walk for miles along shaded paths alongside the River Ness, crossing footbridges onto small islands where it is easy to forget that one is in the middle of a city. Enchanting and peaceful!

Luckily the weather cooperated for us, so we could walk along the river to the restaurant at which our hotel had made us dinner reservations. It was a very scenic walk with dogs frolicking about, couples strolling together, etc. One tip - I'm sure there are many ways to access the area, but there's a Cathedral parking lot that's free...
