Iolaire sails twice daily from Iona at 9.45am or1.45pm OR from Fionnphort at 10am or 2pm. The trip lasts 3 hours and you can get on or off at Fionnphort or Iona. The Iolaire is a brown wooden boat and returns to Fionnphort first at 1pm or 5pm and then to Iona 10 minutes later. The sea journey takes 45 minutes and en route a wide variety of sea life may be observed. Once at Staffa a commentary is given and Fingal's Cave can be seen from the Iolaire. Passengers are landed weather permitted and given at lease one hour ashore which allows time to walk into Fingal's Cave or up the ladders to see the puffins when they are in season. There is always something exciting to see and the crew will be happy to welcome you on board the Iolaire.

Could not have asked for a better trip. The crew were very well informed, and engaged our kids is real conversation on the boat and on Staffa. The photos they have were all taken by their crew. Puffins were everywhere. Caves were terrrific. Awesome experience.

Everyone has been getting great photos lately with so much happening with the puffins. Children especially take great delight in being amongst them. Glad you enjoyed coming with us to see Fingal's Cave on Staffa. Many thanks.

A seasoned boatman who told some good tales and involved the passengers. But an excellent and safe 1 hour boat trip from Iona to Staffa, and good instructions to see the puffins and/or Fingal's Cave. Also good to be able to land back on either...More

Thanks for coming with Iolaire and pointing out that passengers can leave at Fionnphort or Iona on return, it is one of our most asked questions. The Skipper will also be happy with your observations and glad you shared them. Thank you.

Boat pulled right into Fingal's Cave - very rare to be able to do that, but sea calm on a beautiful day. Plenty of time to walk "carefully" round to the cave, but as leg injury prevented me climbing up ladder on to top of...More

The crew enjoy giving private sails to see the puffins for those who cannot climb the ladders to the top of Staffa. It must have been very calm to get into Fingal's Cave with Iolaire. Thanks for coming to Staffa with us.

Captain Davey took us on a beautiful boat trip to Staffa. Though not always seen on the ride, dolphins, puffins, and other sea birds greeted us. The dolphins surfaced very close to the boat. On Staffa, we climbed to the basalt column cave. Back on...More

You were very fortunate on your trip to have all the most wonderful elements of a trip to see Fingal's Cave. It is always great to have a sunny day too. Thanks for coming on the brown wooden boat.

These guys rock the boat-literally! Though rainy and a bit rocky, we had a delightful time and the guys answered all our questions. I got about 10 inches away from the puffins and we were not disappointed.

This is a good question for October. It would depend on the weather and if it is good and settled both trips would be recommended. We leave at 10am or 2pm every day from Fionnphort. The Atlantic seals should be ashore at... More

This is a good question as there are steep cliffs at Staffa, however there is a stairway with hand rails to access the top of the island. Fortunately you don't have to go up there at all if you don't want to. To access the... More
