This statue commemorates the founder of the temperance movement in Ireland. For a country that loves its pubs and beer, there's a little bit of irony in having such a statue prominently displayed on Saint Patrick Street. If I'm not mistaken, I believe that I even saw some young people gathered around it in the evening, with some questionable drinks... More

Why is this still listed? It is just a small statue at the top of Patrick Street in Cork. It can be seen as you walk by

It is not a visitor attraction as such, unless you have a particular interest in the 'Apostle of Temperence' Father Theobald Matthew. This is interesting to look at but I wouldn't class it a tourist attraction. It is not worth going out of your way to visit. But If you are walking through Cork City Centre it is worth a couple of minutes of your time

As others have said, this is simply a statue in the middle of the street. it is not really an attraction, but might be of historical interest to those interest in the temperance movement.

It is just a small statue of Fr Mathew on Patrick street. It should not be listed here on TA
