So quiet and the view…. WOW. The history is amazing how far back this church goes! Nice little 15 minute stop. Walk along the headstones be sure you’re in good footing!

We spent a December afternoon exploring the ruins and cemetery. My husband was profoundly moved by our time there and has carried a small rock from the ground in his pocket ever since.

This place is breathtaking. The views are to die for—no pun intended. Make sure to look for the 1500-year-old cross—supposedly one of the oldest in all of Ireland. This place, while beautiful, is very eerie and, frankly, creepy. I had the oddest sensation of being short of breath and a feeling of lightheadedness. I, to this day, can't explain it. I'm hardly superstitious, but there was something odd going on here. Anyway, I wouldn't let this stop anyone from visiting. Make sure to watch your step. There are 1000-year-old or so remnants of gravestones everywhere. Also, make sure to drive down the road to the point of the peninsula; the views there are stunning.

Just the ride to this church and graveyard will give you some of the best views of southwest Ireland. It is set up on top of a hill with stunning views of the bay and amazing Celtic headstones and remnants of the church.

This is out of the way on the west end of the Beara Peninsula, which is south of the Ring of Kerry. We found this to be a delightful ruin and with the ocean and green land, it made for some wonderful photographs. Parking is easy and no hiking is required. Highly recommended to those who want to connect with the ancient ruins of Ireland.
