Dublin Castle was for 700 years the seat of British power in Ireland. Today you can still view the remains of the 13th century structure as part of the guided tour. The present Dublin Castle dates from the mid 1700's and today is used by the Irish Governemnt for state events such as the inauguration of the Irish President and state banquets for visiting dignatories. Amongst the highlights are the Ladies Drawing Room, the Throne Room and St. Patricks Hall.

Set in the middle of Dublin this is a must attraction.. Spend the 8 euro and do the 1 hour tour it's worth it.. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the Castle and it's history.. It was awesome to see the great halls and how people lived back in those days... I loved it...

This picture is of the Bedford Clock Tower which is in the grounds of Dublin Castle. I say it has a family connection because in the Easter Rising in 1916. A company of ICA (Irish Citizen Army) took over the Dublin City Hall which is close by. The company was under the command of my uncle Captain Sean Connolly, with... More

Although the castle isn't so impressive or imposing from the outside, the inside is a very different place. Having had the guided tour of the castle, it is impressive to find out how important the buildings are to Irish history. The inside is decorated top to toe in ornate furnishings and artwork, most of which is explained in detail on... More

Visited the castle this afternoon and very few people around. Worth having a walk around the grounds if you are passing but we didn't go inside and do a tour which you really need to do to make it worthwhile.

the tour takes you under the castle & shows how the new castle was built on top of the old one, you get a bit of history at the same time. We enjoyed it, but there are a lot of stairs & the floor is a little un even. Once the tour is complete you are free to roam the... More

We chose the self guided tour thru the State Apartments. Having visited corresponding premises in many other cities, this one seemed very modest and small-scale and somehow failed to be interesting. The good stories make history interesting and here, there were almost none told. Which is kind of amazing, since the Irish are so good story tellers.

I took the self guided tour of the State Apartments, which are nice, but without the current Christmas decorations more or less empty. I would evaluate the Dublin Castle nice, but rather average, but a provisional exhibition " The Crawford at the Castle" was really a great one. It displays a selection of Irish art from the eighteenth century to... More

This seemed to be a good way to start off on a chilly morning. I was able to get a ticket for the first guided tour of the day as a walk-in. The ticket office staff were tardy at opening up (5-10mins after the published time) and quite a few people were outside having to wait in the cold before... More

We took the guided tour and we're pleased to see that we got to visit where others didn't. The tour started in a building not open to the general public where the original walls are protected and the scene is set. Our guide was very informative and engaging, talking through how the castle and city have evolved from Viking times... More
