This big proud sculpture is representative of the leading Irish revolutionary, "Wolfe Tone" who was dedicated to end english rule.

On the edge of St Stephen’s Green is the statue of Theobald Wolfe Tone who was a leading Irish revolutionary figure and one of the founding members of the United Irishmen. The statue was designed in 1967 by Irish sculptor Edward Delaney and has depicted Wolfe Tone in a solitary and abandoned fashion, worth checking out when in the area.

... until the man on the hop-on-hop-off bus said something. And I still really do not know who WolfTone is, other than a band. Rather a modern take on a 17th/18th century person. Nice sculpture, but I couldn’t find a name plaque for the life of me.

Stands on the corner of St. Stephens Green and fills a vast space which creates an impression of a lonely man. Worth a look.

The statue is just a statue - worth stopping to look at if you're passing but not worth going out of your way to see.
If you're walking round Stephen's Green be aware that this status is on the outside of the green

Wolfe Tone, in full Theobald Wolfe Tone, born June 20, 1763, Dublin, and died Nov. 19, 1798.
Irish republican and rebel who sought to overthrow English rule in Ireland and who led a French military force to Ireland during the insurrection of 1798.
This is a solitary figure out in the open with not much around, maybe to give it some attention.

As a whole with the stones in the background and Famine sculpture behind, it was a wonderful statue. I enjoyed the wholeness of the several square feet area. Background stones really contributes to the statue. Also, Famine Memorial, there were some debris around, I don't know what kind of mind would allow this disrespect to the cultural and artistic expressions. I know I am taking it a little more serious, but I cannot accept the hypocrisy of the people, they bend, they show some ridiculous respect to the temples and sculptures in and around them, then when it comes more serious, and real artifacts and memorials, they act disrespectful and careless. It is a pity.

Given what Wolfe Tone achieved this statue is a rather glad homage to the man. The ‘Father of Irish Republicanism’ probably deserves something which looks less sad. Make your own mind up and visit it.

I really liked the spot where this statue is located, right at the entrance of St. Stephen's Green. It is a tall, bronze statue of one of Irish icons and it gives the spot a sense of grandiosity.
The statue has a lot of detail in the sculpting and I really enjoyed visiting and photographing it.
