Visited the cathedral tonight to attend the Summer series concert. Tonight's performers were Coaimhin O Fearghail and dancer Jayne Pomplas. Fabulous show held in a 13th century cathedral. Performance was 90 minutes with a10 minute intermission where one meet the performers or take in a history tour of the cathedral. Well worth the 15 euro admission fee

We went to see them on tour in Westport and had a beautiful evening. The combination of down-to-earth Irish trad music with the "heavenly" background of Church architecture is truly magical.... And I returned home less ignorant: I now know how the Illan Pipes work - an instrument that always fascinated me :)

The venue is intimate despite being in a church. The high ceilings allow the music to soar rather than bounce around. We have been in Ireland for two weeks unsuccessfully looking for traditional Irish music. Tonight was a total success. Tunes in the Church/Galway was just wonderful. There is only one week to go. So, if you are going to... More

Traditional Irish music at its finest. The acoustics are fantastic, without the noisy crush of a crowded pub. You not only get to listen to great music, you also get to hear thoughtful comments by the musicians. There was also a brilliant performance of Sean Nos dancing to accompany the music.

Galway is a great place for traditional music - the only trick is the pubs can be absolutely packed (think mardi gras in new orleans packed) and the music starts at 9-10pm (ish) which can be a bit late for some people. The Tunes in the Church program (this was our third time attending) is wonderful for many reasons. It's... More

My husband and I are on our last day of a week-long visit to Galway. We are huge fans of Celtic music. Three nights we have gone to St Nicholas Church for their summer concert series, Tunes in the Church. The acoustics in the 700 year old church are amazing. The setting is beautiful. There is none of the ambient... More

My friend and I are music lovers, so when we saw a flyer for Tunes in the Church we knew we wanted to go. Playing the night we went was a family (father and two daughters) playing traditional Irish music -- and these are folks that are widely known in Ireland! In addition there was also a concertina player and... More

The concert at St Nicholas church is wonderful. You get close-in seating, great Irish traditional music and dancing at a very reasonable price. A very nice way to spend an hour and a half in the early evening. One thing to note is that many restaurants in the area stop serving food at 9 or 10 so, if you want... More
