The traditional application of falconry has been to take a Bird of Prey, train it and then attempt to catch wild quarry with it. Although our guided walks with hawks experience, is not a hunting expedition, it is a leisurely stroll through the majestic settings of Killarney with falconer and hawk/or team of hawks and shows the ability of trained birds and their relationship with their human partners. The participants will have hands on experience with the hawks, you will be able to handle and fly the hawk yourselves under instruction from killarney falconry's falconers. We finish up with an owl encounter where you can handle & hold an owl. - Elizabeth H2 contributionsExciting and educational opportunity!Geoffrey was a fun, knowledgeable guide who made something I was nervous about easy and enjoyable. Sending and receiving the hawks was exhilarating and humbling - an experience we’d definitely do again. Have told everyone about and highly recommend. - RobertKuntz9 contributionsNot to be missedSimply a wonderful experience. Geoff is passionate and deeply knowledgeable about these spectacular predators. He introduced us to them in a dynamic and exciting way. An experience we will not forget. Going in, my wife was reluctant to handle the birds. Geoff immediately put her at ease and she flew Arizona, the Harris hawk, many times, thoroughly enjoying herself. At the end, she made happy acquaintance with Professor, a well-named White Faced Scops. The still pictures do not do the experience justice. (Geoff also knows the best videos to take.) If you are in Killarney, take time for this.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 6, 2023
- jessityrrell4 contributionsGreat experience, well worth paying extra for private experience. As a group of 4 we opted to pay additional money for the private experience. We were so glad that we did this, meeting 4 of the birds and having a great deal of 1:1 time. The birds are beautiful and the experience felt so personal. Our guide was a knowledgeable gentleman and we enjoyed his company.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 16, 2023
- Maureen MAvon, Connecticut36 contributionsMeet huge birds of prey face-to-face! Unforgettable! You simply must experience having a huge bird of prey land on your hand. Mira was my guide for this controlled adventure. She was very smart and shared a great deal of her knowledge of these gigantic birds. The Harris Hawk was my first experience of a huge bird fly towards me -and then land gently on my gloved arm. I then had a number of brilliant owls do the same! Very very special. The majestic hawk Arizona and wise owls, expertly handled by knowledgeable trainer Geoff, created a magical atmosphere for me and my family. The close interaction with these magnificent birds left us in awe, making it a truly unforgettable adventure. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a unique encounter with nature's incredible birds.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten January 6, 2024
- Jeffrey C12 contributionsHANDS DOWN, A MUST-DOIf I could give Geoffrey and Killarbey Falconry 10 stars, I would. Geoffrey is magnificent; he's friendly, kind, clearly loves his birds and takes his time with those visiting. He answered endless questions and never rushed even though it was bitter cold during our visit. He has a full understanding of his birds and their needs and you can tell he meets them.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 19, 2024

The amount of time, energy, and expertise that he and his group bring together make the cost very reasonable. He's funny, engaging, and clearly loves what he does. The knowledgeable staff made the visit both educational and enjoyable. Geoffrey, in particular, was kind and fun, adding a personal touch to the experience. The highlight was interacting with the hawk, which was both stunning and impressive. We also had the chance to see three different kinds of owls up close. Having hawks land on your arm was a thrilling experience. I learned so much about birds of prey and the art of falconry. Highly recommend this unique and unforgettable adventure!Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 10, 2024

Geoff from Killarney Falconry was so welcoming and knowledgeable. Our hands on experience with both Charlie the falcon and Helen and Professor the owls was unforgettable. Absolutely brilliant experience! John was lovely, very informative and answered all our questions. Miko, Riley and Casper were absolutely gorgeous. It was a pleasure and an honour to have experienced the Hawk Walk and I would thoroughly recommend it to anybody who is considering it.

We met John and he guided to a little wood just outside Killarney. John introduced us to Miko the Harris Hawk and took us on a tour thru the wood with each of us getting loads of time with Miko. Our 5 and 6 year old were delighted to meet, Handle and Fly Miko. John answered all our questions, even the silly ones and took fabulous photos. We ended with 10 minutes of play time (hugging, petting and the occasional nibble) with 2 barn owls, a tawny owl and a skopse owl.

This was an exoerience I was really looking forward to ahead of our trip to Ireland and it did not disappoint. Our falconer, John is an incredible guide and teacher who you can tell genuinely cares for these birds. My group consisted of 6 (my family) and we each got ample time to be up close with Miko the Harris Hawk and a variety of the most beautiful owls I have ever seen. To be so close to these birds and witness their strength and intelligence was very special. I would do this again in a heartbeat! It's a good idea to pack a raincoat (when doesn't it rain in Ireland?!) and wear long pants since you're out in a field with tall grass (flies and mosquitos).

We booked this tour after finding it on the internet. Honestly, we weren't sure what to expect...so glad we booked it!
Truly sorry, but don't remember our bird handler's name, but he was very communicative, friendly, and provided tons of great information not he birds. We had a chance to see a hawk and 3 different types of owls in action. We each took multiple turns letting the hawk/owls land on our hands (using gloves) and taking pictures and video. It was a cold rainy morning and none of us cared because we were having a cool experience!
The birds looked extremely healthy, and it looked like the handler truly took care and bonded with these beautiful birds.
Honestly, even though it's only an hour long, it was probably one of the coolest things we did in Ireland during the holiday. Totally well worth it!
Recommendations: You meet the handler away from the city, so bring water, stay warm, and no bathrooms. He takes cash for payment.

Excellent experience for the family. We visited Killarney for a weekend and absolutely loved our experience with the falconry, it was one of the highlights of our trip.
We got to meet Tex the Harrier and were amazed to see the bird so close to its hunting environment.
Booking and arrangement were made so easy with no long complications and the area is we visited was not too far from the town.
This is a must do experience when visiting Killarney as we would have never got so close and witnessed the birds in any other manner.
At the end were got a delightful surprise when meeting the 3 owls.
Our guide on the day was full of knowledge and so helpful and friendly.
We have many pictures to look back on and show friends and family of this great experience

Wow!!! This was the best experience ever and top for both my husband and I of things we did in Ireland! Geoffrey was so knowledgeable about all the birds and takes great care to share that knowledge, plus he is just fun to talk with! The birds are so beautiful and what great fun to see a hawk in action and be able to participate in that action. Don’t hesitate to book this adventure; you won’t regret it!! Highly recommend!!!!

This definitely exceeded the expectations of our group: my wife and I, daughter and son-in-law, and three granddaughters ages 6-10. Geoffrey was extremely enthusiastic, knowledgeable about falconry, talkative, and organized. Our granddaughters left with the largest smiles on their faces...

A must do if you can. Our kids (7 & 13) have not stopped talking about this experience. Absolutely a highlight for the entire trip and an incredible opportunity to learn and have fun. Truly amazing to see these animals up close. We were made very comfortable and the entire experience was absolutely incredible.

Can I pay with a credit card? Or cash-only? I can’t tell if this is a situation where you go to a brick and mortar location to begin the walk (like an American ranger station) or you meet a guide in the woods and start right on the trail, and I would like to be prepared with cash if needed. Also, do you tip the guide? If so, what amount or percentage would be appropriate? Thanks all!
Written August 29, 2019
We met our guide in the woods, and we paid cash so I’m not sure if credit card payment is acceptable.

Hello,
We are traveling to Ireland next month and will have a fairly large group with us. How many people max do you recommend for a single booking? There could be as many as 15 of us. Also, what would the cost be for a group that large?
Written June 22, 2019
I would recommend a group as small as possible- no more than 4-6 people and no kids.
I don’t remember the cost per person, as it was part of a conference fee. Hope you enjoy!
Written June 22, 2019
What is the cost at the end of August 2019...5 adults
Written March 19, 2019
We booked a family package in March 2018, and for the five of us, it was 150 euros.
Written March 24, 2019
I don't see prices on their website. Does anyone recall how much it is per person or group? There will be 4 adults.
Written January 9, 2019
These were the prices when we did it back in April 2018. They may have changed but email them- I got quick responses and good answers when I was wondering if we should do it.
FYI- it was the adventure my kids talked about the most when we returned.
This was a portion of the email response I got last year:

What is the cost for a party of 4 and are you available around the end of November?
Written November 17, 2018
How far in advance should I book? Wondering if we would be able to book a day or two in advance. thanks!
Written May 2, 2018
You should contact them and ask. I emailed them from the US and got quick responses (taking into account time difference). Info is at the bottom of the response.
This was sent from them in March to me and it answered all of my questions but the 2-3 day timeframe was not addressed.
I will say that it was one of the experiences of our trip our kids are still talking about- enjoy if you get to book it!
