This was an amazing drive round the beautiful Achill Island. Each corner had an ever more breathtaking view than the last. Careful driving required at all times. Felt we were almost at the end of the world, when Road just became a path, and we had to,reverse and return on the same road!

So close to the magnificent Atlantic Ocean; good roads, very well sign posted, many pull in spots to get out and admire the scenery, plenty of walks. Some good places to eat in Keel.

Done this drive many times when it's been just the two of us, not such a good idea with babies in the party. Also, we usually do the drive out of season, we've not seen the sea so calm and blue!!

The surfaced road ends at the summit, below three transmitter masts known locally as “the booster”. Technically it is a dead end. But it feels like anything but. For the... More

Great views when sunny and atmospheric when raining. Can be enjoyed at all times of the year from the car. Interesting journey with massive contrasts between rocks and sand and hills and bogs.

Achill is a lesser visited spot on Irelands westcoast where the vast majority of foreign tourists are drawn to the south east, Kerry and Galway further North and occassionally , Clare and Donegal - but the trek off the well worn path to Achill Island is well worth it for some of Irelanss most spactacular coatsal drives, mountain hiking and... This was one of the things on our to do list and was our first time in Ireland. It was such a beautiful, peaceful, natural drive along the Wild Atlantic Way - well worth a drive
