A tour guided by Padraig Meehan is an undoubted highlight for anyone interested in the Irish pre-history. As a qualified tour guide, visiting the site with a small group of German visitors, the presentation of the complex, the history and the connection between the cairns,...More

Drove up to the carpark below the site not realusing that dogs were not allowed. To be fair the access to the site is across working farmland but there did appear to be a walled path through it. We were disappointed that even dogs on...More

Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery is a good place to connect with our early human past while walking around a beautiful part of Ireland. It's a nice place to go for families that are a little older and can appreciate it. There is a real sense of...More

There isn't much of the cemetery left. But the tour guide brings it alive (cost included in the ticket price) and it really gives you an understanding of how big and important this site once was. Such a shame most of it has been lost...More

I have never seen anything like this before. Well worth the visit. Although it's a self-guided tour the information and map is very well laid out.

We had a week of megalithic sites, and this was a nice contrast, fairly spread out, the sit offers a reconstructed mound with very nice stone cairn(?) and many others in more natural state. It is possible to get an idea of how the various...More

A fantastic experience of various tombs and cairns. Do visit the reconstructed large one, and there is another good one across the street. You can do this in about 1.5 or 2 hours, as its a very nice walk and scenery. Little museum as well.

what tour guide? Tour guides at Carrowmore are all employees of the Office of Public Works and most of them have a degree in archaeology, history or heritage.
