The walk from the official car park to the summit is strenuous but well worthwhile. Solid footwear is highly recommended. Views from the summit are 360 degree spectacular. Folklore suggests that a visitor is bestowed good fortune if they carry a stone up the hill to add to the cairn, but ill fortune will befall anyone who climbs upon the... More

Leave the car in strandhill and get a lift to glen road, you can then climb up and over mountain taking in the recent addition of forest descent, amazing views on all sides, steep descent so need to take care but worth it for the originality of the walk.

Climb the new walkway from the Strandhill Road access point or take the old walk. You will have exercise fresh fresh air and stunning views of a magnificent panorama. The boardwalk adds a little fun to the climb for children. The view from the summit is amazing and the ancient feel of the place is awesome.

Three of us, plus my sister-in-law's dog, took a wonderful walk up this path to Queen Maeve's burial mound. It was a sunny, but very cold, day, and the walk was a great outing with some spectacular views of the coast and the countryside around. A very well-engineered path takes you safely to the top.

Great views, a place filled with history and legends. It's steeper than Benbulben though, so don't be surprised if the journey is more tiring.

Very easy hike with beautiful views. Just be careful not to slip on the muddy rocks! It should take about 30-45 mins and isn't too far from Sligo town.

My husband and I took an overnight flight from Toronto to Dublin, arriving around 5am local time. We went through customs, got our bags, rented a car, and drive to Knocknarea, arriving around 10am after stopping for breakfast. There were two other cars in the carpark near Primrose Grange when we got there. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday morning... More

If you are in Sligo and don't go for a hike here, you're missing out. I hiked up the Strandhill steps side and down the easier path to the car park. It was a beautiful day and I will not forget it. Remember to bring a rock with you from the path to the cairn at the top. The view... More
