We ate in Cahir and spent time at the castle. Well worth it. I think it compares favorably to Trim Castle northwest of Dublin. Similar experiences (though Cahir wasn't filmed in Braveheart).

We adored Cahir Castle. With its beautiful courtyard (history buffs and castle experts, I know you'll cringe at that word) and river boasted swans floating past, it looked like a fairytale. It's south a bit from the Rock, and worth the trip. Quiet beauty, well maintained. We had the castle almost to ourselves. The tiny admission charge is well worth... More

I admit that I'm writing this review in January 2017, having visited the Castle in October 2016 so the exhibition on the Easter Uprising and it's impact on the Tipperary region may not still be up - but if it is, it's worth seeing. Unfortunately, we did spend as much time as I would liked here because we were travelling... More

We were all excited to visit the Rock of Cashel but it's not what the fuss is all about, but if you continue south, exit at the town of Cahir, it's a small town, you find yourself in the center as you drive in and you can't miss the castle. There's no word for it, just go. The hotel as... More

We visited Cahir especially to see the Castle and it was worth the visit. The kids enjoyed walking up all the stairs to the upstairs rooms and checking out the scale model of the castle siege. The castle is very well maintained and is a great plave for families to visit.

This is one of the best castle visits in Ireland. We did it as part of a Heritage three day tour of sites in the southeast. Our tour guide at Cahir Castle was excellent- both informative and entertaining. I'll definitely be returning to this site. Nearby Swiss Cottage is also well worth a visit.

This castle is easy to find, not far off the main roads heading southward. The castle costs very little to tour, is an easy walk, takes less than an hour to tour and is a great example of an historic old castle in Ireland. There are a lot of castles in Ireland to visit. This is one of the many... More

While not a large castle, it is extremely interesting, and very accessible. Within the castle, a guided tour is recommended, as many things are pointed out and explained, things you might otherwise miss. It has the only working portcullis in EIRE. Well worth the visit to see a real one, up close. Some good views into the castle courtyards, as... More

This castle can be a quick stop on your route (no more than an hour), but is well worth the detour, especially if you are looking to visit a medieval castle.
