Love this place. A great museum with lots and lots of local history about the steam industry. And some great trains to look at. If I lived closer I would visit more often.

This is a very interesting 'homage to steam'. It is not the largest museum of its kind, try the National Railway Museum at York if you want more, but it is very interesting and well laid out. In the original workshop and foundry buildings it takes you from history through train construction and repair. The locomotives look great and there... More

Located next to the shopping outlet complex. The STEAM Museum contains a variety of locomotives and railway memorabilia, which showcase our great british engineering heritage. The day we visited, there was a xmas market, with lots of artisan products for sale. This museum isn't as interesting as visiting a steam railway, but doesn't give an insight into bygone ago.

STEAM was able to keep me totally enthralled whilst at the same time captivating my young grandson. He loved the "work sheet" that asked him to identify objects and pictures within each area, and was so fascinated by the big engines that he wants to visit a "steaming" day locally, probably at Didcot! A good day out.

Good museum, with lots of info on the history of train building working conditions, women's work in the war , and many interactive displays and play areas for children and the young at heart. I enjoyed changing the points in the signal box., and seeing local school children experience the evacuation experience.

I loved this museum. It will make you travel back in time to the steam trains. Very well organized, friendly staff and if course: steam trains and lots of vintage stuff (some of them interactive). You will a full replica of an old train station, the King's train, the fastest steam train in the world.

This is a wonderful visit for anyone and educational about so many things. Every child needs taking to this sort of place to be enthused by innovation, engineering, entrepreneurship, vision, integration and how solutions were found to problems before computers and electronics held sway. If they understand these things than computers are a doddle. So much to understand by seeing... More

Great venue to experience railway history. Plenty exhibits to see and cafeteria is the usual standard cost. Parking is no problem.
