I agree the signage is none existent, but easy to find on satnav. It's a large imposing heritage building on Morrisons Car Park. Loads of enthusiasts in smart long coats ready and willing to explain the exhibits. Buttons to press to start the engines, and plenty of clear detailed signs explaining the intricacies. A small cafe upstairs, worth going up... More

Possibly one of the best collections of big operational engines in the country. Have been on many visits I find all the exhibits fascinating.

Would benefit from signage, we went round in circles trying to find the museum. Looking at the website we thought that it would be open today as there was nothing that said it was closed for the winter, however when we arrived we could not tell if it was open to the public or not. My partner popped his head... More

Superb exhibits, immaculately restored and maintained. Even if you are not a steam enthusiast you will marvel at these wonderful machines and the skill of the engineering in days before modern technology. The sheer aesthetic appearance of these exhibits is a 'thing of beauty is a joy for ever'. They are a true wonder from the supposed 'dark Satanic mills'!... More

Unfortunately this attraction is only open on holiday weekends and this may be the time that most potential visitors are away somewhere else. We managed to find a free bank holiday and revisited it. Being only round the corner from our house makes it easier. It's a great place to go with loads of knowledgeable people on hand to answer... More

Run entirely on donations it is a superb place to visit in a very clean building and environment. Beautiful machinery and lovingly cared for. Visit on a steaming day if you can (versus electricity driven or compressed air) as nothing beats steam. Don't be a cheapskate and sneak in, put some coins or notes in the donations box - you'll... I love this place, reminds me of Dad, messing about with engines, knowledgeable folk, in overalls, with mucky hands and oily rags, love it, plus it teaches you about the engines that powered mills brilliant place.
