Visited the museum in May 2017 with 2 small kids (4yo and 1yo). It was a nice experience, with lots of old carriages in which we could see with a torchlight (placed at visitors' disposal in the museum). To our surprise, the kids didn't get bored, in fast my older one found the carriages interesting (on the ground floor that... More

A carriage museum? Our son said "It's boring". No it isn't. Carriages are lovely, with a great sense of history. It isn't big but the better for it. Go and immerse yourself in yesteryear. You will not be disappointed

Surprisingly wide selection of carriages for what looks like (from the outside) a small museum. Have been living close to Maidstone for a decade now and every time we drove past said that we should visit - finally made it today. There are around 60 carriages - each with a good, concise description along with some cards giving more information... More

Have been passing this museum for years saying 'we must go there' and today we finally did. At £1 concession army visitor fee it is a must. 59 carriages, sleighs and sedan chairs of days gone by with an excellent curator, David, providing the spiel on the carriages themselves plus related origins of words. Will visit again

My kind of place but not suitable for youg kiddies. Actually I'm a classic car fan but a museum of horse drawn carriages and the way coachwork was built is equally interesting. Well worth the visit I loved the cabriolets and the All Sain't church opposite is worth a look too. Park in Meadow Lock car park, all day for... More

A mere £2 per adult entry & so much history! I must admit to not being that interested when I went in (the other half wanted to go) but with the expert help of the Man at the desk (David?) it was absolutely fascinating! He walked round with us giving us information & little snippets of the origins of words... More

Excellent Civic museum with something for everyone. A number of different galleries, with some interesting History of the local area. Expect to spend at least an hour looking round, but 2 to 3 hours to see it all properly.

I was impressed to see carriages and sleighs connected to Queen Victoria. Apparently Tyrwhitt-Drake sought out these vehicles as they were disposed of by Royalty. I found the presentation to be of a high order, well worth the £1 or £2 admission.
