Handsome and almost symmetrical Georgian country house - on the edge of Platt Fields Park in Rusholme. Now a branch of Manchester City Art Gallery housing their costume collection from 17th century to the present - at the time of writing (February 2017) the downstairs galleries are being reconstructed but there is a great Mary Quant exhibition. Staff here are... More

Visited the Mary Quant exhibition which was good. The gallery is small and friendly and worth a quick visit if in the area (pop down from visiting the Whitworth)

Nice gallery of fashions with some very rare pieces. There is a painted fan that is almost 400 years old. The exhibit on stays was interesting: it's difficult to imagine how long it must have taken to put on one's clothing, much care for all the delicate fabrics. The gallery is about 3/4 mile (1.2 Km) south of the Withworth... More

We walked to this venue one Sunday afternoon. The fashion was very interesting with lots of information about the clothes. There was also a collection of ornate buttons. The building is very grand as well with its pastel rooms and big staircase. There is a cafe where you can get a drink and a piece of homemade cake.

On a wet Saturday morning, we noted the suggestions from other reviewers that this would be a good place for a family outing on a wet day. And they were right. This is a small gallery, but an easy place to spend a pleasant hour or so. The building itself is appealing; you can learn a little of the story... More

The Platt house and the Gallery of Costume are nice but could have been better. The displays were interesting and informative but the glass displays are very reflective and there is not way to see the back of the costumes. Simply put a mirror in the back of the display! Same thing for the special exhibit of 20's and 30's... More

Very interesting collection of historical clothing, dating back to the 1600’s. 20th century clothing wing on the ground floor appears to be shut off at present, but there’s a temporary exhibition of fab groovy 60’s wear by Mary Quant. Free entry. Bit of a way out of the city centre, but worth it if you're interested in this kind of... More

I have been to the park many times previously on visits to the in laws but it is only recently that I have been inside due to the museum being closed. It is a real hidden gem and well worth a visit. A cultural afternoon spent in the Whitworth gallery nearby and an hour in the gallery of costume (although... More

We liked this place, it's a hidden gem within the park. The kids loved seeing the different fashion styles and it was nice to do something different
