This gallery has regular high quality exhibitions and a very nice cafe to boot. Since the refurbishment it has really moved up into one of the serious UK galleries. If it can develop the woodlands next to the galley and improve the perceptions it could compete with some of Europe's niche art locations. The gallery offers a variety of intimate... More

I went to the gallery for the first time yesterday with my girlfriend as it was the Frost Fair this weekend. The frost fair had a small ice-rink at the front of the gallery with lots of little food stalls going around the side of the building which also enticed us to go in. There was also a moving truck... Situated within University of Manchester, the university museum is modern and very insta-worthy. Attended the special exhibition on Andy Warhol and really enjoyed it. Would be great if the museum shop has a greater variety of (affordable) items.

The Whitworth's new look is very well done. We really liked "Visions of the Front" exhibit in Sept. this year. For the rest, it really wasn't quite my taste, but very well displayed. Thought the Café was beautiful but a little pricy.

I was very impressed by the different exhibits and we were really enjoying ourselves But then we saw something that was offensive to a certain group and wasn't pleased.

This was my second visit to Whitworth Art Gallery and it is a great way to spend a few hours. The art was quite different across the two visits. We went on a wet day and everyone enjoyed the day out. The works on display were interesting and thought provoking, creating a lot of discussion. Some art I liked, some... More

Whenever I go back to Manchester I always make sure I make a visit however brief because there is always a changing exhibition in some art form that is interesting. I don't even check in advance anymore, there is always the core collection to get reacquainted with too. Overall I also just love the relaxed atmosphere and its park location.... More

There has been a lot of money spent on refurbishing the building and they have done a fine job. Unlike some great looking galleries the contents are worthy of the building. The exhibition of war artists has Nash, Bomberg, and Nevison amongst many others and the portrait section has works from artists as diverse as Hogarth and Gilbert and George.... More

The renovated museum is a pleasure. Marcantonio Raimondi was an innovator who has fallen from the Pantheon. Into the 19th Century he was ranked with Michelangelo and da Vinci. The creation of multiples of a work of art changed the way art could be appreciated and Marcantonio was a pioneer. The close collaboration between him and Raphael produced great works.... More
