I would more accurately rate this museum as "good" but three and a half is not a possible rating. If you have visited this museum in the past, then it is well worth visiting to admire the extensive alterations and extension created by Herzog and de Meuron. However, in my view the exhibition has not been adequately ungraded to justify... More

The main attraction of this museum is the Isenheim Altarpiece by Grunewald, and it is an incredible work! That particular area of the museum is very well laid out and the descriptions of the different paintings of the altarpiece are detailed. Worth getting an audio guide to get a little more history and a good walk through of the area!... More

A very interesting and varied collection of items which should satisfy all tastes and interests. The centre piece is of course the Issenheim altarpiece - a must see for anyone paying other than a flying visit to the town. The museum has been extended and improved since my previous visit some years ago and at the time of the visit... More

The museum does not mark the path of how to walk from exhibit to exhibit very well. We just wandered around and sometimes found art and others the café or a event space. looking for our way back to the start we left the museum, some how, and had to come back in the front door to return the audio... Centred around the cloisters of the historic nunnery, with modern, symbiotic extensions, this museum has a lot to offer. Even the casual visitor can happily spend 2-3 hours without sensing ennui. The FREE audio guide is a must if you want to get the best out of your visit, but beware, the guide is heavily geared to the regional art... More

Look very modern, it's quite unlucky for me to have not enough to spend in the museum as I had to catch the train to somewhere else.

Colmar is one of my favourite towns in Europe and this museum is worth a visit for the triptych alone. Also, has numerous objets d'art from the region.

This museum, based in an old monastery, features art produced in an around Colmar - by local and visiting artists (for example, there's a Picasso and Monet there from the time they "summered" there) But the real star is the Retable - or Altar piece - of Issenheim. Now I'm neither particularly arty or religious, but it is hard not... More
