It’s worth a visit if you like history. Nicely laid out. But, while there is a guide book available in English and Japanese (possibly other languages) I’m sure I missed out on so much information, as all the exhibits are in local language. Nothing in...More
Maybe it was our annoying English-speaking guide who skipped us around the museum, but we would have enjoyed it more without her. The museum has wonderful artifacts, pelota/jai alai baskets to Basque cemetery headstones, and art depicting ships and the history of the culture.
Well laid out and curated museum on the life in the Basque countries (French side)
The visit takes a couple of hours if done well
The plastic and paintings of old Bayonne and its defenses and harbour facilities are incredibly interesting

A fascinating insight into the colourful history of the Basque region and its people.
Very worthy of a visit if you are a visitor to Bayonne and are interested in local history.
The museum is tastefully arranged to display the many facets of the Basque...More
