This is a beautiful old gate with two clocks and a bell tower. The big bell was erected in 1775 and replaced an older bell that was damaged in the fire of 1774. As a nearby plaque states, the bell was the 'bearer of all...More

We had a long wait here to go up (nearly 45 minutes) because there was a large school party in the tower. There is only a very narrow and tight spiral staircase and it is the same staircase for up and down so it was...More

As you walk around Bordeaux, this is right on the route along the riverside, or when entering some of the major streets for shopping and dining. It is well designed and interesting - I have several photos.

The Grosse Cloche is on of the original gates to the old walled city of Bordeaux, at the west end of the Rue St Catherine. Its clock and decorations are to be admired.

We saw the Grosse Cloche while walking around the historical section and enjoyed the many medieval & Gothic buildings in the city.

One of the must see landmarks in Bordeaux. I didn't have the opportunity to visit inside but it's beautiful!
