Wow. This is a very impressive structure in what appears to be fine shape. Make sure you look at it from both sides.

A nice stop for photos. Bordeaux is a very walkable town. We had bad weather so we could not cover more.

I confess, I have never met a medieval gate I could resist. I am putty in the gate's hands (or whatever). This is no disappointment. What appeals to me is that it has a (1) clock and (2) wind vane, and (3) bell tower (all...More

Historically fascinating and beautiful clock tower. you can walk through it and imagine life in Bordeaux centuries ago. Apparently in the 15th century, the belfry was added to the remains of a 13th century Porte (Saint-Éloi).

The clock is just on the edge of the old City and an easy walk from Rue St Catherine. One of the original gates of the City. From here walk down to the river for more great architecture!

This is a terrific area of central Bordeaux, and a fun place to hang out with the locals. Chez Fred's is a cafe for families that serves ice cream, and non-alcoholic drinks drinks. There are also several Cafe's that the adults can enjoy.
