The Roger Lapebie bike trail runs about 60km from Bordeaux to Sauveterre-de-Guyenne through various small villages, vineyards and gorgeous scenery along an old well paved rail line complete with tunnels and welcome overhanging trees. A number of the stations along the way have been turned into stores / cafes providing well earned opportunities for some refreshment and relaxation and there is the divesrion of towns like Creon if you feel like exploring more. The trail would appeal to both beginner recreational cyclists as it is fairly flat and safe and more experienced riders as it provides the opportunity to do a century ride on a car free environment.
The only difficulty is finding the start of the trail in Bordeaux. An internet search will provide some good directions but don't depend on Google maps...that will leave you in a location that provides you with no idea where the trail is.

The Roger Laperbie trail is very easy to follow, well sign posted and incredibly scenic as it wanders through lovely farmlands. Lots of views of sunflowers, cornfields and orchards. The path is very well maintained and suitable for all bike types. The riding is easy and there are lots of little villages on the way for a cafe or food.

The Voie Verte Roger Lapebie is a must for anyone undertaking a bicycle ride from or around Bordeaux, France. This cycling trail, built on a disused railway line, is 57 kilometres in length, well signed and suitable for both touring and road bikes. Most of the trail appears to have been recently resurfaced plus there is a minimum amount of road usage required when leaving from Bordeaux centre.

An excellent bit of protected Cycle Path - with cafes / eateries every few miles and a quite a few charming locations/shops/villages on the way.
Well signed and very easy to find/follow - simply ride over either of the 2 main river bridges (each with cycle paths) and head south down the river. The old Station café/nick nack shop at Latresne is probably the nearest place of note along the route, being about 6 miles from Bordeaux - with lots more further down the path at intervals.
