I was really impressed by what people were able to build on top of a volcano in the 10th-11th centtury. The church is such a peaceful place, it' worth climbing the 268 steps to reach it. Besides, the views this climb offers you are spectacular.

It's not a co-incidence that they have a defibrillator at the top of this climb but it is worth it. The chapel is very peaceful and a great place for rest and reflection.

You climb many steps and then, you are there, great views and interesting exhibit on the local flora when you get back down.

The Chapelle St. Michel is located on top of a puy (volcanic cone). It takes maybe 10 or 15 minutes to ascend, there are steps and a handrail. You get beautiful views in all directions as you wind your way to the top. The chapel is a reverent place. I was impressed with the devotion of those who chose to... More

The walk up is reasonably strenuous via some steep steps, though there is a fairly good railing for most of the way. The climb is worth it with an almost Buddhist hermitage type feel to the chapel on the top.

Not long trip up, but really worth it. We made it with kids and interior as well as the view is fantastic!

The climb rewards you with spectacular views of Le Puy, but the chapel itself is beautiful, spiritual and special. The ceiling murals are fascinating, beautiful stained glass. When we went a small group of nuns decided to sing. The acoustics resonate softly. The quality of the stonework on the front arch is impressive

The chapel is worth the climb. If not for the view, then certainly for the building itself. My wife and I have a thing for old Roman buildings, and we were not disappointed.

I'm in awe of the churches built on volcanic spires/vents. Pilgrims have been coming for many years and it is cool to walk in their footsteps. Town is east to navigate, beautiful lace shops, lots of crêperies.

This was one of my favorite places on my recent trip to France. Its a hike to get up there, but anyone can do it as long as they take their time. The views are spectacular and the chapel itself is quite special. If you find yourself in Le Puy, definitely come visit.
